GLoGtober '23 3.1: Modern Horror Shotgun Scenario. (Semiurge)

Drip


A house. Every faucet is dripping. Rain is coming down outside. The sound of water trickling down drains is ubiquitous. Water drips through the cracks in the roof into the attic. The floorboards too; all the way down to the basement.


In the basement, there’s a puddle. Everything is dripping down into it. You can see your reflections in the water. They look like they’re draining down, down into the pool. 


Get dripped on, and you feel heavy. Get dripped on enough, and the heaviness makes you feel like you want to descend, to the basement, to the pool, into the pool.


The body falls, and is never found; but the spirit abides in the world, unweighted by the heaviness of the rain, untethered to its body, lost and ethereal in the world of the corporeal.

Operative Requisitions & Mission Profile

Operatives are to be allotted fully waterproof clothing, including masks, hoods, and especially boots. An oxygen tank and an hour of oxygen will be provided for each operative. One Ectoplasmic sensor will be provided, to be distributed by the CO to an operative familiar and competent with the technology. 


Site is a spook hive. Gather information about any spooks and their threat to future Organization activity on location. If they pose a threat, profile possible methods of removal, and remove them if possible.


Non-standard gravity has been reported on site, as well as an anomaly generating the gravitational effects. Profile the anomaly. 


Should hostile operatives be spotted on site, eliminate them.


The presence of a containment crew at major roadways makes this a Third Eye operation on site, and an Open Eye operation for the containment crew. Containment crew objective is to secure the perimeter of the suburbs, neutralizing bogeys. Lethal force is allowed if it can be used quietly. (Players can be either the Containment crew or the Research crew.)

The House (GM information)


Outside

The gutters have buckled everywhere, and have broken directly over the main entrance to the house. The rain comes down hard, hitting the ground much louder than it should, like a fish slapping. The building's windows have been shattered by the force of the rain.


Inside

In the house, the moisture in the air means all things are drawn towards the pool.

The Attic

An old lay-z-boy, a few feet from a desk; a quill pen, writing on a notepad, of its own accord. The pen’s tip has long since dried and blunted, the inkwell overflowing off the desk from a drip of rain that plunks every sixty seconds into the ceramic container. Bookshelves on every wall, with water trickling down the frames. Cardboard boxes of old belongings litter the floor.


It is impossible to breathe without a respirator.


Paranormal(visual equipment): a ghost, standing over the ancient notepad, writing intently.


The ghost of the Grandfather is in this room, writing prayers in his will. If the notebook is taken or destroyed, he becomes Enraged.

Upper Floor:

People who stay up here for too long become oxygen-deprived.


The Nursery (upper floor)

A baby sleeps in its cradle, untroubled. It is terribly thin and malnourished. Life was last seen in the house weeks ago. The music box plays perpetually. The wind whistles through the window, and rain pelts the glass; inside the room, the wind blows through the cracks in the walls and sounds, to the sensitive, like a lullaby. Water drips through the ceiling boards, and trickles down the slight opening in the window.


Paranormal(visual equipment): a ghost, winding the music box with one hand, covering her face with the other.


Insight: a faint lullaby, in time with and composed of the gusts of the wind. 


The ghost of the Mother is in this room, keeping the baby asleep. If the baby wakes up or is moved without the mother being placated, the Mother becomes Enraged.


If the window is closed, the lullaby will cease, and the baby might wake up.


Upstairs Bathroom

Water drips from the sink. Condensation gathers on the ceiling and drips down onto the tiles. Trickling sounds audible from the sinkwell, the toilet bowl, and the shower drain. The shower is on, and water sprays erratically in every direction from the faucet head.


A young boy lays in the shower, unable to move his limbs beneath the great weight of the water flowing down on him and soaking his clothes. He is long dead, from hundreds of thousands of microtraumas against his skull and from pressure of the weight of water caving his bones in. The bathtub bowl is shattered too. 


Slowly but surely, the water makes its way to the staircase and flows down it, dripping down the banisters too.


Paranormal(Visual equipment): a ghost, standing in the shower, trying to block the showerhead.

The ghost of the Twin is in this room. If you turn off the shower, it will follow you and try to stop the Drip from touching you.

Ground Floor

The Kitchen

Water drips from the faucet. The fridge is open; the food is sand dry, all moisture in it dripping down the front of the refrigerator.


The Living Room

The floorboards bow beneath the moisture-soaked furniture. The TV is off, in the corner of the room, its top caved in under a drip of collecting moisture from the plaster ceiling, its electronics hopelessly corroded and waterlogged.

The TV remote floats in this room. 

Paranormal(visual equipment): a ghost of a boy, clicking the remote at the TV. The ghost of the other twin is in this room. If you do not provide it constant entertainment, such as by turning on the TV, it will become Enraged.


Door to the Basement

The door to the basement is blocked by furniture. Scratch marks on the floor indicate that this furniture has been moved towards and away from the door at least once. A fast, strong flow of water flows from the entire house and beneath the door.

the ghost of the Father haunts the ground floor. If you try to enter the basement, it will try to stop you. 


The Basement

Water courses down the steps and into The Pool. In the basement, there’s a puddle. Everything is dripping down into it. You can see your reflections in the water. They look like they’re draining down, down into the pool. 


Flecks of paint dry, fall like bricks (instead of like snowflakes), hit the surface of the pool, tremble on the surface tension, and are dragged under by the Strange Force. You feel heavy in this room, but somewhat horizontally heavy, as if pulled gravitationally by the pool. 


The basement is empty of all small items. Bookshelves have fallen from two of the walls. Small rocks tumble one face-per-hour towards the pool; the bookshelves slide in very slowly, like a pig slipping down an anaconda’s gullet.


You can move 5 extra feet towards the Pool in the basement, and 5 fewer feet away from it, per turn. Every time you open your mouth, all the moisture in your mouth leaves it, and you feel tugged towards the pool by your tongue and salivary glands.

Misc. (GM information)

Anti-Emanation

A force that compounds gravity’s impact hundredsfold if objects are fluid, and marginally if solid.

Localized in the pool. 

  • A potential resource for constructing fusion reactors. 

  • Water droplets fall like anvils around it.

  • The compounding effect it has on gravity lessens dramatically with distance.

  • The property does not inhere in the water, but in the essence of it.

  • If you fall into the pool, your soul is separated from your body. Almost every soul separated like this will spend eternity repeating an action and fly into a rage when interrupted. (But you’re definitely the special one that has autonomy and shii) 


The Black Museum

Interested in securing the site, running tests, and collecting samples. The containment crew sees them parachuting into the woods behind the suburbs. 5 members, clad in black, with wet suits and silenced weaponry, without respirators-- they seem to have had incomplete intel. Use the stats of Black Docents, equipped with silenced automatic rifles with infrared scopes. CO has a machine pistol and an ectoplasm sensor. Two of the Docents have a smoke grenade. One of them has a Sharpshooter rifle.


Dry spots and Drip: the only place that is completely dry is the cupboard under the stairs. You can stand there without getting dripped on. On the first floor, the water will tear through a thin umbrella. 

If you are dripped on, make a Morale check, or spend all of your movement moving towards the pool by whatever route is least impeded. CO’s must also make this check.
