Chiron Corso, Thetur Spheres & the Hound

Image
Handler Chiron, Handler Kane, Pouncer & Skulker Chiron Corso is a rather tall, well-dressed Thetian with their classic unsettling orc-like front teeth and otherwise fairly human appearance. He wears shades to hide his eyes, the irises of which look like rolling cylindrical clouds of red electricity. In each of his temples are a small metal implant which taps into his frontal lobes to get probabilistic complete-readings of the entire brain's activity, and which emit a high-pitched whistle depending on Chiron's mood and intentional states. Over the course of a long rest and wielding his electric screwdriver and his trusty Futuretech PC, Chiron can write new code for the whistling outputs which correspond to his intentional/emotional inputs. These whistling commands correspond to outputs in Hound behavior. Any inputs he does have written he can swap between using audio commands Chiron is prone to fits of maniac homicidal anger, in which the whistling can become unbearable and...

Derelict-Crawl Ideas: Piloted Asteroids + Wildcatter Class

I'm reading the book The Sparrow  by Mary Doria Russell right now. It's pretty decent, though I have some bones to pick when it comes to pacing, incorporating themes and background knowledge (in a way that doesn't feel forced) and the general hesitancy I feel of the author in writing it, but maybe she was just chomping at the bit to get to the extremely meaningful part of the book and I'm in for a hell of a turn. Either way, there's a  concept that gets introduced about 100-150 pages into the book-- the idea that asteroids are piloted as ships of their own and are self-sufficient, providing their own fuel. I'm not particularly interested in the actual  scientific possibility of this, just in converting the method detailed in the text to gameable material for Archon's Court's derelict-crawling game ( Orbiters Local 519 ). There's a few different places they mention the procedures involved for achieving this: Massdrivers, Lifepods, Miner's Quarte...

My Own Batteries Not Included Rules/Generator

I've been playing games of Batteries not Included at home. Here's my module generator for the game: Ten Modules This game centers around capturing a neutral flag. Players consist of a core, and can attach five Modules to that core. The core is indestructible; the Modules are not. Four types of resources/accruable stats: Power - Resets at the start of each round, used for certain actions Some objects allow you to gain more power per turn. Ammo - Used for advanced weapons, bullets and bombs are all just Ammo. If something requires ammo, it starts out with 2 units of Ammo Fuel - Used to power certain modules, diesel and biofuel are all just Fuel. If something requires Fuel, it starts out with 2 units of Fuel. Heat - Accrued from Overclocking (see below) and certain actions, too much of this is bad.  Your core can store one Heat. Afterwards, it’s stored in the Module that generated it. When you have 1 Heat stored in a module, that module can’t be untapped. When you have 2 Heat...

Grove Temples + Druids of the Candlelight

Grove Temples! A grove temple is a 40 ft wide, 90 ft long building with a high roof and supports resembling pillars made out of thick, gnarled branches woven together. In fact, the entire building seems to be made of thick vine-like chords of living matter that snake together and form one large structure. Two large doors made out of what is clearly some kind of wood form the main entrance to the building. When the players approach the structure, give them the following description: As you emerge from a particularly wet patch of the grotto you find yourself in a small, cool clearing, dimly lit by fat fireflies lazily traveling through the air. In the centre of the clearing is a large wooden building, almost like a large church, with massive mahogany doors and walls that look like twisted vines. The miles of land surrounding the temple form a dismal swamp known as Hag’s Nest swamp. The swamp is notorious for being a death trap and due to the fact that an enormous amount of hags, witches,...
